Nice tips. Thanks

It's not easy anymore to get to the first page on Digg. And as the sites gets popular "lighter" stories start to dominate.

If your articles have more specific subjects you can also consider digg like sites. There are a lot of them out there. The ones with niches are great if you want a specific audience.
N4G.com is great for Game news
BizHeat.com for Business news
Y Combinator for Tech news
etc.

Finding those first 10 people is absolutely crucial if you don't have a huge reader base. I've noticed that a very low percentage of regular visitors will digg a story, but a huge percentage of viewers from digg will still digg a story.

[...] 1.) Post about Digg - Flattery gets you everywhere 2.) Be a digg junkie and buy a shirt like I did 3.) Steal other people’s articles on getting dugg on digg and 10 steps to guarentee your digg 4.) Then steal articles on Digg making it harder to get dug and how now that YouTube got sold, is digg next? 5.) Use diggSpy to see what people are digging - duh! 6.) Bash Microsoft, Google, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo WII, Halo 3 and Final Fantasy. 7.) Praise Apple, WikiPedia, Google, Microsoft and Digg. 8.) Harass all your friends to “digg” your post. 9.) Post your Digg list and tag your site on De.licio.us, Technorati, reddit, etc. 10.) Make sure you write a “Top Ten” or “How To” post. [...]
