Gordon B. Hinckley - A great hero in my life.
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008I often talk to people about how great a hero Ron Paul is to me, but without a doubt Gordon B. Hinckley is one of my greatest heroes of all time.
I remember the first time I ever saw President Hinckley. I was 14. We were at the Priesthood Session of General Conference in Salt Lake City. There were several thousand men in the room. Everyone was making so much noise that you could hardly hear over the echoes of the tabernacle. Then I noticed that everyone was standing. Within less than 5 seconds that hall was so silent that you could hear a sniffle from across the balcony. Everyone was now standing. I looked over to see what they were looking at. President Hinckley, a little old man, had just entered the room. As I watched with awe I could feel the silent reverent electricity that permeated the hall. I had never felt that feeling before, it was a feeling that brought tears to my 14 year old eyes, a feeling I will never forget. It was burned into my soul that Gordon B. Hinckley was a Prophet of God.
Here are a couple of videos that I have come across. First is Glenn Beck sharing his love for this man who was also a hero of his. Second is one of President Hinckley’s recent speaches. Enjoy:
